Madeline: "Yes, Gustav?"
Gustav:"Will you marry me?"
Madeline: "OMGG!!! YES!!"
Girl standing nearby: "Ugh, why do people always have to propose in public? We get it, you're all gooey mad in love and all that. Get a room!"
Madeline: "Oh, I'm so happy! We'll make a beautiful couple!"
Gustav: "Yeah.... I can't wait!"
At that moment however, thoughts of marital commitment, children, and responsibility swarm through Gustav's head. Is he ready for this type of commitment?
The truth is, he is far from ready. He's been chatting with his ex-girlfriend, Jenny Lho for the past couple of days. As an author, he has a very flexible schedule. This means he can go visit friends and hang out at the Rejuvinating Pool while Madeline works at the science research center to feed the cowplants. Now of course Gustav can chat with friends, but people around him are beginning to think this relationship with his ex-girlfriend is a little more than just a time for friendly chat.
Oh, look. One of Madeline's closest friends, Ian Nali, is coming to the Rejuvinating pool to relax a bit from training celebrities in Athletics.
In the corner of his eye, he notices local debutante Jenny Lho chatting with someone. She seems to be a little infatuated with whoever she's talking to.
Suddenly, he realizes that Jenny is talking to none other than Gustav.
His stomach starts to churn as he wonders to himself; "Could this be? Is my best friend's husband cheating on another woman?"
Turns out, Gustav is now flirting with Jenny.
Gustav: "I'd like to paint you sometime. Without that bikini on. Mmm?"
Jenny: "Hehehe, stop that Gus. You're making me blush!"
Ian: "AHEM."
Gustav: "Oh, um, hi there Ian. I was just having a friendly chat with Miss Jenny over here. Right Jenny?"
Jenny: "Yeah, friendly chat. Um, I'll be going. See ya Gus."
Ian: "I hope you realize what this looks like, Gustav. Madeline will be so upset if she knows you've been talking to Jenny that way."
Gustav: "Listen, please don't tell her. I'm really sorry! I don't know why, she just lured me in somehow. I didn't even realize what was going on until you thankfully interrupted us."
Ian: "Okay, well, you need to be more careful. Madeline is a great girl and she doesn't deserve to have her heart broken."
Gustav: "I agree, I totally agree. Again, I won't do it again! I swear."
Meanwhile, Madeline has come back from work and is preparing for Gustav's birthday party. Yep, it just so happens to be the day he's turning from a young adult into a full-grown adult.
Gustav gets home just as the first guests arive.
Later, more people come and the whole thing turns out to be a rockin' shindig.
Madeline, however, feels slightly suspicious of Gustav, since he's spent half of the party chatting up Jenny Lho, whom Madeline invited out of goodwill.
You see, months earlier Gustav and Madeline were just roommates living together in the same house. They went to the local disco club, when Madeline was rudely mocked and insulted in public.
Gustav proceeded to defend his roommate and break up with Jenny Lho, who was pretty infamous for being a total bi-- err, rude person.
Later that night, Gustav and Madeline kissed and went steady.
As he cheered her up from that public embarrassment that he felt so guilty for, she felt comforted by him. He seemed like a nice guy. However, at the time she had no idea how bad his commitment issues would be once he realized just how big of a commitment marriage is.
And of course, Madeline would have dreams about getting a voodoo doll and embarrassing the crap out of Jenny in revenge.
....and on another note, it seems Gustav's growing into adulthood has caused him to grow VERY long hair. Let's go change that immediately in the bathroom mirror.
Suddenly, while quietly pondering his aging face in the mirror...
Jenny: "Boo!"
Gustav: "OMG!!!! Geez Jenny, you scared me to death!"
Jenny: "Hahaha! Relax, Gus. I'm just teasing you. I don't know why you think you look so old, you're very attractive to me."
Gustav: "Haha, yeah right. But thanks for the compliment!"
Nicholas Riverhawk: "Sooo.... what about garbage bags, huh? Those things are a pain!"
Later...
Ian: "This is a great party you threw for Gustav. The cake was great!"
Madeline: "Thanks Ian, as you probably know I didn't make the cake myself, but I think I made a good choice when I picked it up at the grocery store."
Apparently, sims really like to socialize in the bathroom. Maybe it's the privacy factor.
Ryan: "Gus, how's that new book coming? What is it called, 'Too Mainstream' or something?"
Gustav: "No, actually it's 'Two Maine Stream'... which is a play on words. It's about a hipster from New England who drowns in a river."
Ryan: "That's certainly an interesting plot. I'll make sure to buy it personally from you when it comes out!"
Gustav: "Buy it? No way! I'll give you a free copy since you're a close friend."
Ian was the only one left later in the night after everyone else had run home.
Ian: "So what is your guys' wedding going to be like?"
Madeline: "Well, duh. It's going to be huge and filled with frilly stuff!"
Gustav thought to himself: "Huge? Frilly stuff? Oh no. I hate huge weddings and frilly things!"
(transition)
In the next couple of days, Gustav starts to forget about the close call with Ian nearly catching him with another woman. The next day, Madeline and Gustav get invited to a party hosted by Nicholas Riverhawk. Madeline is downstairs chatting with Nicholas while Gustav goes upstairs to check out the house. He then notices a stunningly attractive young lady in the excersize room.
Gustav: "Sooo... what's your name?"
Anna: "Anna Menon"
Gustav: "Anna Menon? That's a gorgeous name."
It seems Gustav's midlife crisis has gotten to his head. He wasn't usually so aggresively flirty with random strangers. Yet, he had a fear of losing touch with his youth and being able to have fun with the ladies, as opposed to the shackles of responsibility that came from marriage.
It's then the day after that when Gustav makes what can possibly be considered the greatest mistake of his life.
Jenny: "A present for me? Oh, how sweet of you!"
Gustav: "Yea, it's a copy of one of my books, 'Monsters with Boogly Eyes', which explores science fiction."
Jenny: "I like science fiction."
Gustav: "Really? I thought you said books were boring and you'd rather beat up a librarian than read a long novel."
Jenny: "I was just joking, you know that. Besides, it's written by you. I think you're so talented at writing."
Gustav: "Well, uh, hehe, thanks Jenny. You're not so bad yourself!"
....
Gustav: "How about we... go upstairs."
Jenny: "Heck yea!"
....
....
To be continued...
